In our increasingly interconnected world, strong written communication skills—especially academic writing proficiency—are essential for undergraduate and senior high school students, shaping academic success and career prospects.
This hands-on workshop introduces AI-powered writing assistant chatbots, developed by the AI-powered Language Laboratory (ALL), Hong Kong Shue Yan University. These chatbots are designed to bridge cultural understanding through enhanced Chinese and English writing skills. Participants will engage in guided practice to craft Chinese business letters and English research reports: two fundamental forms of cross-cultural professional communication that students encounter throughout their academic and professional journeys.
Beyond writing assistance, our research report chatbot serves as an intelligent research companion. It teaches users how to locate specific information, evaluate source credibility, and integrate findings into coherent professional arguments. This dual functionality supports the entire professional writing process—from initial research to final composition.
Our unique scaffolded learning approach, which builds skills incrementally, provides suggestions and feedback rather than ready-made answers, fostering critical thinking while promoting cultural understanding. No prior prompt engineering experience is required—simply engage with our intuitive interface to discover how technology can enhance, rather than replace, human creativity in academic writing and research.
